Your recordings stay on your PC.
CyanFocus records and edits on your own computer. It has no account and no cloud, and your recordings are never uploaded.
In short: CyanFocus does not collect your recordings, your screen, your voice or your files. We never see them.
What stays on your computer
- Recordings: screen video, microphone, system audio and camera. They are saved in your Documents\CyanFocus folder and in your saved projects.
- Mouse and click data: used only to draw the cursor and add automatic zooms, and kept with your recording.
- Captions: made on your PC by a speech model that runs locally. Your audio is never sent anywhere.
- Exports: saved where you choose.
When CyanFocus uses the internet
- Captions model download: the first time you make captions, CyanFocus downloads the speech model (the program itself, not your data) from a public model library. After that it is cached on your PC.
- Update check: CyanFocus may check whether a newer version exists. That check sends nothing about you or your recordings.
- Anonymous usage and crash reports (you can turn these off): see below.
Anonymous usage and crash reports
To find bugs and understand which features are used, CyanFocus sends a small amount of anonymous information to our server (api.cyanfocus.com, hosted by Cloudflare). You can switch this off at any time in the app: Capture panel → Send anonymous usage & crash reports. When it's off, nothing is sent.
What is sent:
- a random ID created on your PC, which is not linked to your name, email or licence key
- the CyanFocus version, whether it came from the Microsoft Store or our website, and your Windows version
- when certain things happen: the app is opened, a recording or export finishes or fails (with the export size, frame rate and video length), captions are made, the Pro window is opened, Buy is clicked, Pro is activated
- crash reports: where the error happened, the error message and technical details. Before sending, CyanFocus removes your Windows user name, your home folder, email addresses, licence keys and file names.
What is never sent: your recordings, screenshots, audio, captions, file names, window titles or anything you type.
We use this only to fix problems and improve CyanFocus, never for advertising, and we don't sell or share it. Usage records are deleted after 13 months.
Diagnostics you choose to send
Send diagnostics in the app saves a small file to your Downloads folder. It contains:
- the app version and your Windows version
- your CPU and memory
- whether the recorder parts are working
- recent error messages
It contains no video, audio or screenshots, and nothing is sent automatically. If you email it to us, we use it only to fix your problem.
This website
cyanfocus.com is hosted by Cloudflare, which keeps standard server logs, such as IP addresses, for security and to keep the site running. This site does not use tracking cookies or advertising.
Payments
CyanFocus Pro is sold through Creem, our payment provider and merchant of record. Creem processes your payment and handles sales tax. We receive your email address, your plan and your licence details, never your card number.
Licence checks
If you use Pro, CyanFocus checks your licence with our licence service (api.cyanfocus.com, hosted by Cloudflare) when you activate it and about every 12 hours after that. The check sends your licence key and an ID for this PC. When you activate, it also sends your PC's name, so the activation can be told apart from your other PC. Nothing about your recordings is sent.
To check that your subscription is paid up, our licence service keeps a record of your email address, plan, subscription status and billing dates, which it receives from Creem. Licence keys are stored only as a one-way fingerprint (hash). We use this record only to switch Pro on or off and to answer your support requests.
